A New Caliber of Hockey coming Fall 2017

NYTEX Sports Centre is introducing The NYTEX Centre of Excellence (C.O.E.). This elite program, coached by the best NYTEX has to offer, will help your child develop skills on and off the ice.

Dates

The program will run September 5, 2017 though May 3, 2018 on a Monday-Thursday schedule with a curriculum combining hockey and academics. Thanksgiving, Christmas/New Years and Spring Breaks included.

Ages

Students will be separated in to two groups. Students age 13 and under will be in the FUTURES program. Students age 14 and older will be in the JR. PROSPECTS program.

Training

Students will receive an hour and a half of both on-ice and dry land training daily.  The “C.O.E.” will run from 8:30 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. with the option for extra ice time on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings.

Curriculum

Students are encouraged to follow Apex Learning or K12 Texas curriculum.

Study hall is built in to each day at NYTEX with our learning coaches.

Learning coaches and tutors are available for students both during the day at NYTEX or at the convenience of your own home.  Some families may feel the need to set up extra tutoring sessions with one of the C.O.E. tutors after hours.

F.A.Q.

Q: What is the Centre of Excellence?
A: The Centre of Excellence is a comprehensive hockey training program with highly-trained coaches, specialized off-ice training, nutritional specialists, and video training.

Q: Will there be on-site schooling?
A: Although each individual is responsible for registering with their preferred home school program, the COE will offer educational support with a daily study hall period and highly-qualified tutors to assist the academy members. The COE recommends state-certified and accredited programs like K12 and Apex Learning.

Q: How many days and hours a week is the training?
A: The COE will offer a Monday through Thursday training week. Athletes will get 6-7 hours of on-ice training, 5 hours of off-ice training, 4 hours of study hall, and 1-2 hours of video analysis each week. Additionally, athletes will receive a nutritional meal each day prepared by ZuRoma.

Q: Who are the coaches?
A: For on-ice training, Lone Star Brahmas Head Coach Dan Wildfong and Assistant Coach Al Rooney head a list of experienced coaches, including Jennifer Anderson, Michael Hill, Steve Jeffers, and Knute Anderson. Steve Jeffers and Michael Hill will be the key instructors for off-ice training.

Q: Can Off-Campus P.E. Students participate without full enrollment?
A: Yes. In the first season of COE, we will offer an Off-Campus P.E. program for students to come in for 90 minutes of on-ice training each day in order to fulfill credit requirements.

Q: Is the COE schedule going to line up with a traditional school year?
A: Yes. We follow the traditional school year. There will be a Thanksgiving break, winter break, and spring and summer breaks.

Q: Will there be additional training offered by the COE staff during those breaks?
A: Yes. We currently offer a Holiday Camp and will offer more clinics in the future, including and Early Spring and Summer Camp.

Off-Campus P.E.

The C.O.E. also accepts students looking to complete off-campus P.E. hours to receive school credit.  There is a one hour skating time slot from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Keep an eye out for C.O.E. camps throughout the calendar year to get the true “day in the life” of a
NYTEX Centre of Excellence student and develop your on ice skills.
